Contact: Sammy McDavid

A week of special activities will precede Mississippi State University's first campus football game Sept. 21.

"Dawg Daze '96" is being sponsored Sept. 16-20 by the Campus Activities Board, Music Maker Productions, the Student Association, and the student life office.

The high point of the week will be the 6:30 p.m. pep rally on the 20th at the University Amphitheater. The Bulldog Cheerleaders and Famous Maroon Band will be joined on stage by President Donald Zacharias and head football coach Jackie Sherrill.

The pep rally will be followed by a free concert--also at the amphitheater--featuring the alternative rock band "Drivin-n-Cryin" and alternative blues band "Col. Bruce Hampton and the Figi Mariners."

The week's activities include:

Monday, free pool and bowling from noon-2 p.m. in the Colvard Union Dawg House entertainment arcade. Simultaneously, campus radio station WMSV-FM will be broadcasting nearby from the Union's first floor lobby.

Tuesday, free ice cream at the Gathering Park between the Union and McCool Hall. "Three Way," an acoustical music group, will perform at the park noon-2 p.m.

Wednesday, a community service fair will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the main Union lobby. Later, two free movies will be shown in the third-floor small auditorium: "Pulp Fiction/Director's Cut" at 7 p.m. and "Broken Arrow" at 9:15.

Thursday, the University Custodial Choir will perform at noon in the main Union lobby. A pool tournament will be held in the Dawg House, beginning at 6 p.m.

The football game between Mississippi State and Louisiana Tech University kicks off at 6 p.m. on the 21st.
