The history and highlights of Rep. G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery's three decades of public service are featured in a new World Wide Web site.

Developed by Mississippi State University, the Internet site is called "Salute to a Patriot" and can be accessed at http://msuinfo.ur.msstate.edu/alumni/sonny/. The web title also was the theme for a Mississippi State-sponsored gala held recently in Washington, D.C., to honor the 3rd District congressman and help raise funds to support a new scholarship in his honor.

Montgomery, a Meridian native and 1943 Mississippi State graduate, retires this year. The Sept. 12 tribute to him in the nation's capital brought together university, local, state, and national officials and raised more than $1 million for the Montgomery Scholars Fund.

"Sonny Montgomery has served the state and the nation with distinction and brought great honor to Mississippi and to Mississippi State," said Institutional Advancement Vice President Billy Ward. "This Internet site is one way of communicating his many contributions."

Montgomery is the second distinguished alumnus to be featured on the university's alumni website.

Last May, Mississippi State launched a website for novelist John Grisham, a 1977 graduate. Grisham's website may be reached by accessing the university home page at http://www.msstate.edu. Point your browser to "alumni," and on the alumni page select "alumni interests."

Browsers visiting the university website also may select from interests buttons that include athletics, research, service, academics, prospective students, and news, among others.
