October 24, 2019 - 4:00 pm

About this event

The Department of History at Mississippi State University, in conjunction with the university's Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library and the Presidential History Network, is hosting a two-day symposium to analyze the history and memory of American presidential scandals.

Scholars from all disciplines are encouraged to submit paper proposals investigating the ways in which scandal has been:
• managed or mismanaged by presidents and administration staff
• shaped by the history of the era
• prosecuted in the court of public opinion
• depicted in popular culture or historiography
• interpreted by international onlookers

The symposium will begin with a keynote address by Bruce J. Schulman, William E. Huntington professor of history at Boston University.

Admission is free and open to the public.
