About this event

The Office of Research and Economic Development at Mississippi State is kicking off its Spring Seminar Series with this session, "Using Real-World Problems in the Classroom to Grow Industry Partnerships." Growing a mutually beneficial partnership with a company from industry can be a lengthy process that, if handled successfully, could lead to long-term engagement and funding opportunities. One of the ways to produce a relationship with industry is through partnering to create real-world classroom problems based on the immediate needs of the company. The purpose of this seminar will be to discuss the types of successful classroom problems that have been used in the past to grow industry relationships here at MSU, as well as recommendations on what makes a successful project for both the students and the sponsor. Presenters for this session will be Kathy Gelston, who serves as MSU associate vice president for corporate engagement and economic development, as well as Assistant Professor Reuben Burch of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.
